We've set up this group so that teachers can keep in touch after our Drama and Storytelling course has finished and continue to share teaching experiences related to drama.
When I heard about the drama course and the possiblity of joining this website I was immediately drawn to it. I´m pretty sure it will keep me up on English drama resources. I haven´t much drama…Continuar

During my school years our class prepared every end of the course a play for our parents. For me, having the opportunity of being on stage was a great deal. I had to bring my feelings face to face. I…Continuar

Well, I´ve worked with drama since the beginning of this year. And I have checked it improves a lot the learning process of my students. Drama is essentially social and involves contact,…Continuar

The very few times I took part in a school play, very long time ago, I remember it as a thoroughly satisfying experience. The preparation bit is what turns the acting into an ordeal, at least for the shy people as me. Once you find yourself on stage, there´s no scape, you stop having butterflies in your stomach!
Although I've never taught drama in class, we in our school usually take our students to a play performed by a professional group of actors who organize plays for primary and secondary students. From my point of view, this activity has always been very entertaining for the students and very useful for them and their English. The plays are usually very funny and the students enjoy them a lot, especially because they are part of the action. The actors usually ask for volunteers to participate in the play and some of the characters are played by the students. Besides, the English the actors use is usually very appropriate for the level of the students and, although they don't understand everything they say, even though the plays are prepared beforehand in class, the plays are perfectly understandable. It is a very nice experience.
If you want to know, the company who organizes this activity is called Face 2 Face.
Drama Curriculum Vitae
I have always loved theatre both as a member of the audience and as an actor. I have been able to include myself in any setting the play I was seeing or performing took me to.
When I was a child, I took part in many theatre activities in my small school. Every time there was one arranged, there I was, no matter whether it was for Christmas or end of the School Year Play. In the beginning, I was one of the supporting actors, but when I became older, I started to perform leading roles. My teachers said I would become a good actor if I continued like that (I might change career some time...) because I devoted too much time not only to the rehearsals, but also to the preparation of the background stage, the costumes, etc.
My favourite theatre experience was a play in which the characters were all the letters of the alphabet. I played the role of letter "A", son of the letters "M" and "P". That was fantastic.
When I grew up, my friends and myself started to perform some plays in the village festivities. Some other villages even hired our performing. My favourite one by that time was Moliere´s Le Médecin Malgré lui. It was fun and we had a wonderful time rehearsing and performing it. People liked it too.
All in all, theatre is a good activity in which you disconnect from reality to play a role which, even though it can be good or bad, easy or difficult, is always entertaining.
My best drama experience at school
I have put up many little plays, pantomimes, role-plays and so on with my students. Whenever I find a possibility, I do it. While preparing I always regret it: so much work !. But when I see the results ( students so highly motivated, having so much fun, learning linguistic and non-linguistic contents ), I repeat the show !.
I think a starting point must be not to work on your own. You need help: from the children, from parents, from coleagues.
My best experience has been in my previous post, where the group of English teachers ( 8 !!! ) were all happy to be involved in these kind of activities.
We had Danny Griffin´s concert in December. In January one of the teachers came up with the idea. We did a WHOLE SCHOOL show in June. Tremenduous.
The group of 6º had recorded a movie ( by scenes) in which one of th girls went to England to stay a few weeks in summer. The film was watched in a big screen placed on stage. When a scene ended, the stage was filled with another group who danced and sang one of Danny´s songs: a song that had to do with the scene. So, let´s say the show started: 1º sang "Nice to meet you". Then, we had the scene in which the girl arrived at London, at the end of it the 4º sang " London town".
I can´t explain in words how good it was, I promise it was the best ever. It´s a pity that we have such strict rules about internet, images and children because the DVD we made of the show is worth watching.
All the teachers at school (English and not English) were involved. All the children at school, except Infants, were participants.
I know I will (maybe) be able to do some other shows, but not as important as this one.
From here, I want to thank again all my coleagues from El Peralejo (Alpedrete)
Hi, my name is Olga Aragonés and I have worked role plays and mime with my students. After this course I hope to be able to do more activities with them since my head is full of new ideas.
