In my teaching experience, theatre rehearsal (memory activities, emotion work, role plays) has been the main source of activities for the lessons. I have never tried a play or a scene, but simulations or role plays.

Students enjoy playing somebody else's role. They are looking forward to taking the teacher's part, and it is a game I usually play among younger groups. One student has to take the teacher's part to use a different type of vocabulary, or being questioned about personal life experience -role play- As a regular theatre goer, I also enjoy telling them the play of the week/ moth I have seen. It's a listening comprehension activity, and it encourages students to ask questions and use the language.
