My first theatrical experience at school

I was working in a private school and one day I asked the Head of Studies if we could do an activity with my 6th grade studetns: once per week they could go to preschool to read a story to the smaller kids. He believed it was better if we prepared something, like a play.

So I decided to do Snowhite and we prepared it over a semester. We had rehearsals during the recess. It was a voluntary activity but many of the kids were eager to help in one way (as actors or actresses) or as making costumes or props.

The day came, and the student who had to bring part of the costume for the prince didn't come. So I had to run to the chinese shop to buy some clothes!!

We showed the play and preschool kids liked it very much.

They were all very happy, especially me, who was really tired!!! It was my first theatrical experience as a teacher in a school and I learned a lot for the next time.

It sounds great Rocío. I did somtehing similar last year in Infant to work with "Castles project" and I dressed up as a juggler to explain them how the king court was and it works since they looked they really thing I was a juggler. Later, i teach them a dance. A few days later kids really want to act at class and enjoy drama and also they were more motivated to learn.

I think is essential to share our motivation and knowledge about drama to the rest of the school team to make it easier,

So far so good you managed to show the play in the end. I was engaged in the "Drama and Storytelling course" in february 2011. I liked it very much and I produced a blog. So here it is just in case you would give it a look.
